“Three Belles” of Yalta

I never imagined the Daughters of Yalta would inspire a song, but they have! I was so fortunate to meet the residents of North Hill this spring, who selected The Daughters of Yalta as their community read of 2023. Not only does this remarkable group read their selected book, they also put together a whole month of incredible programming around the book, including themed dinners, cocktail hours, lectures, film nights, and concerts by their resident a cappella group, the HillTones. You can imagine my surprise and utter delight when I learned the HillTones had written new lyrics to an old sea shanty called “Eight Belles” inspired by my book. Listening to it brought tears to my eyes, I was so touched—it was the kindest gift I could have received. They have very graciously allowed me to share their wonderful song with all of you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
